Choosing a TYM Tractor for Loader Work, Mowing and Farm Chores
For loader work, mowing around obstacles and frequent changes of direction, we usually recommend starting with TYM's hydrostatic tractors. Pedal-controlled travel makes it convenient to approach a pallet, work around buildings or adjust mowing speed. When the job calls for a larger tractor and more power, the power-shuttle T5075 is worth comparing alongside the hydrostatic cab models.
The size decision starts with the loads, implements and working room. A tractor used mainly for mowing has different requirements from one handling heavy pallets every day. In the TYM range at Keast Enterprises, a small difference in engine horsepower can conceal a substantial difference in tractor weight and loader capacity.
Start with the jobs the tractor will do most often
Make a short list of the regular work and the implements needed for it. Mowing acreage matters, but so does the kind of mowing: a finish mower working around trees presents a different job from a rotary cutter in heavy pasture growth. The implement's power requirement, weight and width help determine the tractor size.
For loader work, identify the heaviest regular load and where it has to be placed. Include the height of the feeder, trailer or storage area. Moving mulch in a bucket and lifting a loaded pallet both use a loader, but they put different demands on it.
Access can narrow the choices early. Measure the lowest doorway, narrowest gate and tightest area around the buildings. Include the width of the mower or other implement. A tractor that fits through the gate by itself may need more room with an attachment mounted.
We also want to know which jobs take most of the operating hours. A backhoe used for an occasional project should be considered differently from a mower that runs every week. Choosing the tractor and regular implements together helps put the purchase budget toward the work that matters most.
T224 and 2515H: similar horsepower, different tractor sizes
TYM T224
The T224 is a 21.5-horsepower hydrostatic tractor with an approximate tractor-only weight of 1,472 pounds, including its rollover protective structure. It is a useful starting point for property maintenance, mowing and lighter loader work where compact dimensions matter.
Its TX22H loader is rated at 617 pounds at the pivot pin at maximum height. That makes the expected loader job an early part of the discussion. A buyer who mainly needs a mowing tractor with a bucket for occasional material handling has different requirements from one regularly unloading heavy deliveries with forks.
TYM 2515H
The 2515H has a 24-horsepower engine and a three-range hydrostatic transmission. Its approximate tractor-only weight, including the rollover structure, is 2,969 pounds. It is a substantially heavier tractor than the T224 despite the small difference in engine horsepower.
The 2515H package includes a loader with a published 2,200-pound full-height rating. That figure needs to be checked for the attachment and load position required by the job; it should not be treated as a verified pallet-fork payload. The larger tractor and loader make the 2515H worth comparing when the work requires more lifting capability than the T224 provides.
These two models show why an engine-horsepower limit is a poor way to choose tractor size. The T224's compact dimensions may be valuable for mowing and narrow access. The 2515H brings more tractor weight and a different loader package while remaining below 25 engine horsepower.
Neither tractor-only weight is a transport weight. Add the loader, bucket or forks, ballast and any implements when assessing a hauling trailer or the complete operating package.
Understand the loader rating before choosing a model
A loader's capacity depends on where the load is carried and how high it is raised. Published ratings can refer to different measurement points, so compare figures taken at the same point and height.
The T224, T474HC, T494HC, T574HC and T5075 loader ratings below are measured at the pivot pin at maximum height. A pallet's center of weight sits farther forward on the forks. That extra distance gives the load more leverage against the loader, while the forks themselves add weight.
For example, a 1,800-pound pallet on a 300-pound fork attachment creates a combined load of 2,100 pounds. A 2,100-pound pivot-pin rating alone does not establish that the tractor can handle it. The loader information must support that weight at the actual load center and required height, with the attachment and specified ballast included in the assessment.
The same approach applies to bales. We need the bale weight, attachment and placement height before recommending the loader. A model number or horsepower figure doesn't establish the capacity for that particular lift.
If loader work is the main reason for buying the tractor, settle that requirement before comparing cab features or adding other implements. It is one of the differences most likely to change the model recommendation.
Comparing the TYM cab tractors
A heated and air-conditioned cab is worth considering for winter feeding, snow work, dusty mowing and longer days in the seat. The T474HC, T494HC and T574HC packages below use three-range hydrostatic transmissions. The larger T5075 uses a 16-forward/16-reverse power shuttle.

These are comparison figures for the linked tractor packages. Fork capacity and implement fit still depend on the attachment, load position and operating requirements.
T474HC and T494HC
The T474HC is the smaller tractor, even though both models are rated at 48.3 engine horsepower. Its smaller frame is useful around buildings, through gates and in confined work areas. The T494HC gives you a larger frame and more lifting capacity at the same engine-horsepower rating.
The T474HC's TX47 loader is rated at 2,152 pounds at the pivot pin at maximum height, compared with 2,790 pounds for the T494HC package. We usually recommend the T474HC when working room is limited and its loader meets the job. The T494HC is worth the step up when heavier loader work calls for its additional lift capacity and the larger tractor fits the farm's access requirements.
Both listed configurations supply 7.7 gallons per minute to the implements. Moving to the T494HC increases loader lift capacity without increasing that hydraulic-flow figure. For a hydraulically powered attachment, check its flow requirement separately from the tractor's lifting ability.
T494HC and T574HC
The T494HC and T574HC share the same frame. The T574HC adds a turbocharged engine rated at 55 horsepower, compared with 48.3 horsepower in the T494HC. Both of our cab configurations retain three-range hydrostatic drive, so the T574HC provides more power without a move to a larger tractor frame.
Their lifting and hydraulic specifications are also the same: 2,790 pounds of loader lift at the pivot pin at maximum height, 3,822 pounds of rear-hitch lift at the hitch ends, and 7.7 gallons per minute of implement flow. The T574HC's additional horsepower does not increase those ratings.
We usually recommend comparing the T574HC when the T494HC meets the size and lift requirements but the regular work needs more power for mowing, tilling or other PTO-driven equipment. Use the tractor's PTO horsepower and the implement manufacturer's requirements to select working width; engine horsepower alone doesn't establish the match.
T5075
The T5075 is a step up to a larger utility tractor with 74.3 engine horsepower. Our configuration combines a 16-forward/16-reverse power-shuttle transmission with an L5075SL loader rated at 3,325 pounds at the pivot pin at maximum height. Compared with the T574HC, it brings a larger tractor, more power and a higher loader rating, along with the change to geared travel.
The difference extends to rear implements. The T5075 provides 10.3 gallons per minute of implement hydraulic flow, compared with 7.7 on the three hydrostatic cab models above. Its rear hitch is rated at 5,515 pounds at the hitch ends, compared with 3,822 pounds for the T494HC and T574HC. Those are comparable hitch-end ratings; the implement's weight and load center still determine whether it can be carried safely.
That makes the T5075 worth comparing when rear-implement work needs more power, hydraulic flow or hitch capacity. The power shuttle also suits repeated loader work for an operator who prefers geared travel. Compare the implements and loader jobs together when deciding whether to move from a compact cab tractor to this utility model.
Hydrostatic or power shuttle?
Hydrostatic drive lets the operator vary travel speed with the pedals within a selected range. This is useful when approaching a pallet, slowing for a turn or working along a fence. The operator can make frequent speed adjustments without selecting another gear each time.
A power shuttle uses a forward-reverse control along with geared travel speeds. It also suits repeated loader work. A buyer who needs the T5075's capacity and prefers geared operation can have both without relying on a conventional manual direction change for every loading cycle.
The choice deserves time in the seat. Check how the travel controls and loader joystick feel, how clearly you can see the attachment and whether the seating position works for you. If several people will operate the tractor, include them in that comparison.
Match the mower, hydraulics and ballast
Engine horsepower and PTO horsepower are different figures. For a PTO-driven mower, tiller or other implement, use the power available at the PTO shaft and the implement manufacturer's requirement. Working width, vegetation or soil conditions, implement weight and required travel speed also influence the match.
The three-point hitch must have the correct category and sufficient lifting capacity for the implement at its load center. A long or heavy attachment places its weight behind the tractor, so the complete tractor and ballast arrangement matters alongside the hitch rating.
Hydraulic attachments need their own checks. A grapple requires the appropriate hydraulic function at the loader to open and close it. Rear implements may need remote valves or a specified flow. Compare the flow available to the implement with its requirement; a combined pump-flow figure can include oil assigned to steering.
Tires and ballast should be selected for the regular work and the manufacturer's requirements. Tire choice can also change overall width. Include the cab or rollover structure when checking overhead clearance, and measure the complete package against the route between storage and the work area.
Put the tractor and attachments in one quote
A useful comparison includes the equipment that makes the tractor ready for its intended work:
- The tractor model and transmission.
- Loader model, bucket, forks or other front attachment.
- Rear implements, including their model numbers if already owned.
- Required hydraulic valves and connections.
- Tires and the specified ballast arrangement.
Bring the heaviest regular loader job, its placement height, the acreage and type of mowing, and any tight access measurements. With the existing implement model numbers, we can check power, hitch and hydraulic requirements before recommending the tractor package.
