Cover Crop Seeders

We offer Hiniker cover crop seeders for two distinct methods: pneumatic broadcast application and opener-based interseeding.

Broadcast Cover Crop Seeders

Hiniker's current pneumatic systems use 30- or 55-cu.-ft. stainless-steel hoppers. The 30-cu.-ft. hopper has 24 seed meters, while the 55-cu.-ft. hopper has 36. Variable-rate hydraulic and 12-volt electric metering drives are available; our Hiniker 7055 55-cu.-ft. cover crop seeder is an electric-drive configuration with 36 one-inch meters.

Hiniker rates the one-inch seed deflectors to provide full coverage at 12- to 30-inch spacing. Mounting packages are available for tillage and vertical-tillage implements. Check frame space, structural support, clearance, and hose routing on the specific implement.

Interseeding Standing Corn

Hiniker opener-based interseeders place cover-crop seed into standing corn in spring or early summer. Crop stage, herbicide program, and local agronomic guidance still need to be considered when setting placement timing.

The Hiniker GPS-controlled electric-drive interseeder is configurable from 6 to 16 rows and uses a standard 24-bushel hopper. Hiniker also offers folding three-point toolbars up to 40 feet, including 16-row, 30-inch and 24-row, 20-inch layouts.

Hiniker interseeder row units use 16-inch double discs, one-inch seed tubes, and 12-inch press wheels. The row units provide 30 inches of under-frame clearance, can be spaced as narrowly as 7.5 inches, and can mount to existing 4- through 7-inch toolbars.

Seed Rate and Calibration

On the electric system, the GPS sensor supplies ground speed and the cab controller varies metering-shaft speed from the entered rate. Actual seed delivery changes with seed density, travel speed, and row spacing, so calibration requires collecting and weighing metered seed at the chosen row spacing and application rate.
