The Baumalight PT324 is a Category 1 tractor tree spade for 24-inch root balls. Its three-blade fixed frame and manual hydraulic controls suit nursery and landscape work with smaller trees, with manufacturer trunk ratings of 2 inches for evergreens and 1.5 inches for hardwoods.
Separate hydraulic valve controls operate each blade, lift and tilt. That lets the operator advance the blades in sequence while keeping the head centered around the trunk. The three-point mount supplies down pressure for digging and hydraulic lift to bring the root ball out of the hole.
The 20-inch fixed opening is the approach space around the tree. The blades close to form a root ball 24 inches across and 23 inches deep, so the opening and root ball diameter describe different parts of the job.
