The Baumalight PT440 forms a 40-inch root ball with four 1/4-inch high-alloy steel blades. This Category 2 tractor tree spade is configured with manual hydraulic valve controls for the blades, lift and tilt.
The wide blade arrangement gives the operator a view of where the head sits around the tree. Hydraulic tilt helps align the spade, and down pressure holds its position while the blades cut into the soil. The blade steel is specified by Baumalight to harden with use, while the four blades support the root ball as it is raised.
The 40-inch head moves a larger root ball than the 30-inch PT330 and PS330. That also raises the lifting load: Baumalight lists 3,134 pounds with a root ball and a 6,000-pound minimum tractor weight. The manufacturer’s trunk guide is 4 inches for evergreens and 3 inches for hardwoods.
