Overview

The Baumalight ST440 is a versatile 40-inch skid steer tree spade from the Nomad series, designed for professional-grade transplanting. 

It produces a 40" diameter root ball with a 30" depth, making it the perfect size for evergreens up to 4" and hardwoods up to 3". This model is equipped with manual hydraulic controls, featuring a valve bank that extends toward the cab for direct, tactile operation without the need for 12V electrical hookups or complex wiring.

The ST440 features a dual-hinged "Tree Hugger" frame, which allows the outer towers to swing open wide (52"). This provides the operator with an unobstructed view of the digging action and allows for precise positioning around the tree trunk while protecting the lower branches of evergreens from damage. Four-Blade Semi-Truncated Design

The ST440 uses four blades made of 1/4" AR400 high-alloy steel. This semi-truncated configuration is the most utilitarian blade style, providing a narrower bottom cut for better soil retention and superior penetration in clay or compacted soils.

Manual Valve Controls

The manual control option is a straightforward, high-reliability solution. The hydraulic levers are mounted on a stand that puts control right at the operator's fingertips, ensuring consistent performance without the risk of electrical failure in the field.

Dual-Hinged Swing Frame

The frame arms are dual-hinged to "hug" the tree. By swinging the towers open, you gain a large 52" opening, allowing you to clear the canopy and position the blades perfectly centered for a professional, uniform root ball.

Self-Hardening Steel Blades

The AR400 steel blades are engineered to actually harden with use. This ensures that the more you work, the more durable the blades become, providing long-term reliability for high-volume nursery and landscaping operations.

Efficiency-First Engineering

The ST440 utilizes a "cylinders push" design, where the hydraulic cylinders work at their most efficient point to drive the blades into the ground. This maximizes the down-pressure and ensures a clean cut even in difficult soil conditions.
