Root-Ball and Tree Sizes

The DR438 forms a 38-inch nominal root ball at a 27-inch depth, the ST440 forms a 40-inch root ball at a 30-inch depth, and the PT650 forms a 50-inch root ball at a 43-inch depth. The DR438 is rated for 4-inch evergreen or 3.5-inch hardwood trees, the ST440 for 4-inch evergreen or 3-inch hardwood trees, and the PT650 for 5-inch evergreen or 4-inch hardwood trees. Soil, root structure, blade penetration, and operating method affect the actual root ball and transplanting result.

Skid-Steer and Three-Point Models

The DR438 and ST440 are skid-steer models. The DR438 requires 5-25 GPM; the ST440 requires 5-20 GPM. Both operate at 2,900-4,000 PSI. The Baumalight DR438 industrial skid-steer tree spade and Baumalight ST440 skid-steer tree spade use different mount and control configurations.

The PT650 uses a CAT 2 three-point hitch, six blades, and built-in hydraulic positioning functions. It requires 5-20 GPM and 2,900-4,000 PSI. The Baumalight PT650 three-point tree spade is the three-point model with hydraulic positioning.
